Indian Chief Description
I am John Landstrom, owner of Blue Moon Cycle, I have decided to sell a few of my personal bikes, this is one that I have owned more than ten years. She’s been featured in several magazines. This motorcycle was a Starklite (California) restoration when I got it. The engine and drive train have been rebuilt by Starklite. As a winter project here at Blue Moon, I turned it into the bobber it is. Now the “Super” Chief is about 40 lbs lighter, and handles better with its low seat and skinny 21 inch wheel on the front. Although it looks custom, it’s amazingly stock. The fork, handlebars, frame and drive-train are all stock Indian items. Custom features include a 2.75 x 21″ Avon tire up front for lighter steering. For looks I chose a Bates style mini headlight and MCM dual up-swept fishtails. I cut down the heavy skirted Indian front fender and used it on the rear. I bent the sissy bar from 5/8ths round stock and fabricated a side mount for the original glass Indian tail light. The original Indian-head front running light was painted red turned rearward. For riding comfort I chose a sprung Bates seat pan with custom leather work paying homage to a proud Native American. The style of this bike is indicative of a late 1950’s bobber, just before the chopper craze of the 1960’s took over. I am old enough to remember when Indians were considered just another used motorcycle, by the late 50’s all the Indian dealers were gone. I paid $800 for my first Chief in 1971. Today it amazes me how many younger riders have never even seen a real Indian motorcycle. I enjoy riding my Indian bobber to Atlanta area bike nights just to show it off, but the lumbering giant is most at home on two lane blacktop. My preference is exercising the old Chief on short rides in the Georgia countryside. I rode this bike to Daytona about 8 years ago without a hiccup. There’s nothing like the low frequency vibration of the big Indian flathead on a smooth Georgia road. Riding this old Indian takes me back to a time when things were simpler, when imports were called “foreign”, when almost every car and motorcycle on the highway was made in the USA, a time when Harley’s and Indians ruled the road, when the Chief was truly Super. Give me a call if you want to see this bike, Price is firm and I will consider trades. Worldwide shipping is possible. I’m here M-F 9-6. Thanks for looking, John
