Harley-Davidson FXR Description
This 1987 FXRC-Blue Edition 148/750 Harley Davidson is very rare and owned by Oil Cooling Guru Tony Reise. Tony is the owner of AER Oil Cooling Systems in Rhode Island.
When living in Southern California in the early ’70’s, Tony had the opportunity to meet and work with custom car and cycle legends Big Daddy Roth and Dick Allen. Dick was the inventor of the Narrowed Springer Front End and the 2 into 1 Collector Exhaust System and Blower Belt Drive.
Tony returned to the East Coast in the mid 70’s and built the Midnight Rider, a 67 Shovel Head. He had all of Dick Allen’s systems on the Shovel Head, the front end, exhaust, and belt drive. At this time, all these prototypes weren’t seen or sold anywhere but in California.
When the 90’s arrived, Tony wanted to build a 100″ Shovel Head, a show stopper. Purple Haze was the name. He knew being a Stroker etc. there would be much more heat, thus generating much more heat in the combustion chamber. This lead Tony to design and build a Cooling System in 1992. This system was very different from all others, one could say it was bullet proof.
Three years later, Tony was ready to build another show stopper. He built the 50 Caliber, another 100″ Shovel with much more detail than the Plum Crazy. Hot Bikes Magazine featured the Caliber in it’s 1999 May issue. Tony entered the 50 Caliber in the famous Easyrider Show in Philadelphia in 2000 where he won 1st Place in the Judged Custom Class.
Tony had a stock 1987 FXRC, very rare HD in his collection. He wanted to do a mild custom look, the FXRC was to be special, knowing that the bike was to remain stock or so to speak. A Corbin Seat, Thunder Headers, and small turn signal lights were installed.
Tony read an article about horse power made by a new Head design created by Bob Johnson. Impressed, Tony headed to Westerly, RI to commission Johnson to build the motor.
Johnson used WISECO pistons, S&S Crank Pin, Hi Performance Rods, and Johnson’s /JET CAM, Push Rods and Lifters in the build. Johnson also magafluxed, shot penned, blueprinted and balanced the engine. An S&S Hi Performance Oil Pump was used. JET/Johnson built a very reliable engine for Tony with 100 HP & 100 lbs of torque. Of course, a Screaming Eagle Rev Limiter was installed and set at 6800 RPM’s. The best of everything was used on the inside and outside of this FXRC. The FXRC has approximately 10,000 miles on it since the Johnson build.
